Hello there! I’m Kari, and I’m so happy you’ve found me on your search for a New York photographer. I started my business in 2007, and have been working as a full-time photographer ever since.
I’ve always been a storyteller. I love creating stories from scratch through writing books, and I love documenting stories as they unfold in front of me. There’s an indescribable feeling of satisfaction when I look at a photograph I’ve taken and start to experience the emotions that the people in the image are experiencing. I’m driven in every facet of my life by authenticity. I live my life loudly, refusing to shy away from difficult topics or “taboo” subjects. I love unapologetically. And I’m 100% myself no matter what setting I’m in. I want you to feel the same way when you see yourself in the photos I take—100% you, experiencing joy and emotion and love in the exact way that feels natural to you.
I’m assuming you’ve already taken a look at my work, so now I’ll pull back the curtain for a little insight into who I am when I’m not behind a camera.
I’m obsessed with music, and it plays as a soundtrack to every part of my life. Live music is indescribably wonderful. I just went to Governors Ball for the first time, and I’m turning into a concert junkie. I’m constantly on the search for new music, as is evidenced by my (minimum) 3 Spotify playlists a year. My forever obsessions are Bon Iver, Local Natives, Florence and the Machine, Yoke Lore, and Labrinth. My current/new loves are Annika Bennett, Margo Ross, Maddie Zahm, and LÉON. There are so many more, but if you want to talk music more, we can always do that when we meet!
If I’m not listening to music, I’m probably sitting at my computer editing photos while watching one of my favorite series. Stranger Things, The Last of Us, and Wednesday are just perfection. But I also love a regular dose of Survivor and Bachelor in Paradise. I apologize for nothing.
If I’m trying to relax completely and tune the world out, I’ll likely be playing Stardew Valley. I’m fairly certain it’s the least problematic addiction anyone can have, and I love every part of it.
I’m a slut for good food and alcohol. ROKC, Uncle Lou, Pil Pil, and Shake Shack are some of my favorites for eating out. But I’m also a huge fan of cooking at home and am a fabulous sous chef for my partner. Grenache-Syrah & Pinot Gris wines are my favorite. And Lagavulin… forever and always.
My partner and I have been together for 17 years, and I’m fully aware of how lucky we are to still be happily together.
I lived in France for 7 years and speak French.
I rarely wear makeup. It makes my face feel weird and my eyes itch, and I can absolutely never get it perfectly even. But I’ll always put it on for a wedding day.
I’m proudly queer. And if that’s a problem for you, I’m definitely not your photographer.

Bean burritos, my white Chucks, The Mummy (shout out to all the Millennial bisexuals), autumn weather, whisky tastings, Bamboo (my 16-year-old rescue mess of a cat), Anthony Bourdain, reading smutty romance novels, taro bubble tea, animals (seriously… I love them all), New York in every season except summer, and watching the NBA.
