Colorado Engagement Session
Amber + Bobby
Amber + Bobby
We met Amber almost a decade ago, as she was a bridesmaid at a wedding we photographed. Both Amber and we knew that if and when she got married someday, we had to be her photographers. When the day rolled around that she was in need of our services, she was engaged to Bobby, a Colorado native. Their wedding was in New Orleans but they really wanted a Colorado engagement session to reflect both parts of their lives.
We don’t often have more than a few hours with our couples for their engagement sessions. But Amber and Bobby aren’t your normal couple. We managed to set aside a couple days for us to road trip out to Colorado Springs to stay with Bobby’s family and have time to hang out, take photos, and adventure around Colorado.
Since Bobby is from the area and Amber had enjoyed their many trips out to his parent’s home, they knew they wanted to show us Pike’s Peak and the Garden of the Gods, while also taking some photos on Bobby’s parents land. We heartily agreed.
Our first stop was at the Garden of the Gods. It’s a 1,300 acre national park with grandiose sandstone formations strewn among green shrubbery. It was a riot of the oranges and reds of the sandstone mixed with the green of the grass and the pure blue of the sky. In short, it was breathtaking. You would think that with a landscape like that, that the couple would be lost amongst it all. That might be true for some people, but not for Amber and Bobby. You could place them in the middle of a trash heap and they’d look just as fabulous. We could have spent the whole session there and been happy.
Our next stop was Pike’s peak. We’d always dreamed of having a photo session in the mountains, but even in our wildest dreams, we never could have expected it to be this perfect. There was nothing but a few puffy clouds in the sky. There was still snow on the ground. And Amber and Bobby were unbothered by the chilly temperature. Again, we could have spent the rest of the day on the peak and been fulfilled, but we knew there were more locations calling our names.
Our last stop, just as the sun was setting, was back at Bobby’s parent’s house. They changed into warm, comfy clothes and cuddled together while sipping on some top notch bourbon–the perfect way to end a glorious day. At the end of the session, we felt like we had just spent the day adventuring with friends. Which, I suppose, isn’t wrong.
