I am regularly asked how we came up with my photography studio’s name. So I want to give you a little insight into the inspiration behind the name “Cottonwood Studios”.
I have been obsessed with trees my entire life. I love the way they move in the wind. I love the way they grow. I love the patterns their branches make. And I love how they change with the seasons.
There is one type of tree in particular that I really love – an Eastern Cottonwood tree—which is native to the Southwest of the United States where my grandparents lived and my parents grew up.
Cottonwoods typically grow extremely quickly, and are known for growing where other trees can’t. The tree has deep meaning in several Native American tribes about its healing properties and ability to offer life, shelter, and nourishment.
For me, personally, there is something so uniquely beautiful about the sound that the leaves of a Cottonwood make when the wind blows. I don’t know how to describe the sound, but it’s… soothing.
So, I became Cottonwood Studios. And the leaf in the logo is a cottonwood leaf to put a visual representation of the tree with the studio name.
XOXO,
Kari
